If you have a weak, cracked or damaged tooth, or several damaged teeth, this can be quite painful and uncomfortable – especially when eating.
A dental crown is a type of tooth replacement, serving as a hollow, tooth-shaped cap that restores the shape and size of a tooth to its original appearance, fully encasing the visible portion of the tooth that lies above the gum line.
This means that you can eat, drink and use your teeth to their full capacity in complete confidence and comfort.
Benefits of dental crowns
Dental crowns are beneficial for a number of reasons, including:
- Aesthetics – crowns can improve the general appearance of the tooth in terms of its colour and shape. Unlike metal, porcelain looks very similar to a natural tooth, providing an attractive overall result.
- Protection – dental crowns offer a good level of protection for the natural tooth, restoring it and protecting it to keep out bacteria.
- Durable – dental crowns last for a very long time and are incredibly durable, meaning you can wear them with confidence.
Dental crowns in Shropshire
The procedure of having a dental crown fitted with Esthetique Dental is much like having a filling. One of our dentists will prepare your tooth and take an impression, which is then sent to a dental laboratory to be created specifically to fit your tooth. During this period, a temporary crown is then fitted to the tooth, which is made of acrylic and held in place using a temporary cement mixture.
The second visit to our practice will involve the removal of the temporary crown, and checking the fit and colour of the permanent crown for you before cementing this in place.
